We had a great turnout for the Alley Park meet this past weekend. There was a total of 39 starts across the 5 courses. The weather cooperated and it was a nice day for racing through the woods.
Thanks to Annie for helping with the registration, and thanks to all the volunteers who helped pick up, it made it go much quicker than I could have managed by myself.

Thank you to everyone who came out and made our first event of the fall season at Highbanks a success!
The weather was perfect, and we had a great turnout: 49 people started AND finished White, Yellow, and Orange courses. We had 8 starts on Green, 5 starts on Red and 8 starts on Blue.
We also rolled out a few new features with electronic controls and online registration. Many
long-time supporters were excited to see this development as we incorporate new
technologies.
The courses also had a few extra features. In addition to the standard beginner, intermediate, and advanced courses, we offered a stacked-course option for folks who wanted to take on an extra challenge by running both of the advanced courses back-to-back (and navigating the second course on the fly without a break to pre-plan their route)! A few brave folks also took on a surprise challenge by tracking down an optional hidden control for an extra time bonus!
We also offered a complimentary wardrobe decoration service for folks who went off-
trail, courtesy of the Highbanks flora. Many people returned with an impressive layer of seeds and burrs from their torsos to their toes. (Hopefully the time saving for taking the direct route was worth it!)
Our next event will be at Alley Park, just south of Lancaster, on October 11, 2025. It's only a short drive from Columbus and has some rugged hills and picturesque ponds. And hopefully we'll start to have some fall colors showing!

What is Orienteering?

Orienteering is a competitive international sport that combines racing with navigation. It is a timed race in which individual participants use a specially created, highly detailed map to select routes and navigate through diverse and often unfamiliar terrain and visit control points in sequence. Courses also can be enjoyed as a walk in the woods, with difficulty levels from beginner to expert offered at most events.
